Exposition. The Dream of Pure Form, Geometric Art of the 1950s
11 septembre 1998 - 25 octobre 1998
Islande, Reykjavík, National Gallery of Iceland
Notes : [ Geometric abstraction flourished in Iceland in the 1950s. "The Dream of Pure Form" aims to present Icelandic geometric abstraction from that period in an international context. Among the most influential advocates of this movement overseas were Serge Poliakoff, Jean Dewasne, Richard Mortensen, Victor Vasarely and André Herbin. Icelanders whose work will be exhibited include: Benedikt Gunnarsson, Bragi Ásgeirsson, Eiríkur Smith, Gerdur Helgadóttir, Gudmunda Andrésdóttir, Gudmundur Benediktsson, Hafsteinn Austmann, Hjörleifur Sigurdsson, Hördur Ágústsson, Jóhannes Jóhannesson, Jón Benediktsson, Karl Kvaran, Kjartan Gudjónsson, Nína Tryggvadóttir, Svavar Gudnason, Sverrir Haraldsson, Valtyr Pétursson and Thorvaldur Skúlason. Along with works by these artists, the exhibition will feature photographs of buildings associated with geometric abstraction. The exhibition will be mounted in all the rooms and a catalogue will be published.
