Exposition. MCA Collection. International Multiples
02 juillet 1997 - 24 août 1997
Australie, Sydney, Museum of Contemporary Art
http://www.mca.com.au/multiples/index.html
Notes : [ This exhibition, curated by Sue Cramer, includes a number of recently acquired multiples by prominent international and Australian artists. These include Rosemarie Trockel and Rebecca Horn (Germany), Sophie Calle (France), Sherrie Levine, Matt Mullican, Lorna Simpson and Felix Gonzales-Torres (USA), Yasumasa Morimura (Japan), and Debra Phillips, Rosslynd Piggot and Maria Kozic (Australia). Most of the works were produced after 1990, indicating the strong interest taken by contemporary artists in making multiples.
The MCA takes a special interest in collecting and exhibiting multiples -- art objects that are produced in a limited (or sometimes unlimited) edition. For many artists, the multiple represents a practical and relatively inexpensive way of distributing the artist's work democratically and into a wider range of social context than is possible with unique or one-off works of art. Many of these works go beyond the parameters that traditionally define art, often being produced by the artist in collaboration with a manufacturer.
