Notes :

[ This large exhibition, drawing together work by over thirty Australian artists, concentrates upon the most pervasive visual mediator of our contemporary world: photography. If contemporary photography can be thought of as a scale of possibilities, with documentary photography at one end and the manipulations of computer art at the other, this exhibition occupies the large space in between. It reveals the continuing strength of photography in the creative imagination rather than concentrating on its dispersal or transformation within the forms of new media. Yet Photography is Dead! Long Live Photography! does not seek to resurrect the facticity of photography or isolate its formal qualities. Rather it presents works that engage in re-evaluating our conventional understanding of the medium, an understanding which is currently undergoing a process of rapid change.
