Australie, Sydney, Museum of Contemporary Art

Stan DOUGLAS, Robert HOULE, Ken LUM, Liz MAGOR

Notes :

[ The chosen artists work across different media, including film and installation, as they investigate the nature of the photographic experience, exploiting both its documentary effect and fictional potential. Whether using photography in its expanded form as a carrier of social values, as documentation or personal memento, the artists work against the straightforward realism commonly associated with this medium. Their works are transformative rather than mechanical. Techniques of staging, juxtaposition and reconstruction are used to present identity as a potentially limitless range of roles, projections and masks, or to explore the uncertain relationship between fiction and reality in a media-saturated society.
